Adam and I could potentially be the slowest home fixer-uppers known to mankind! After doing all total kitchen refurbishment ourselves a couple of years ago we took a MASSIVE break from doing anything crazy. If you've ever done a big project than you know that a break is and was very much needed!
We have a couple of big rooms to get done in 2020 and I am getting back onto the BIG projects bandwagon. I would love to enjoy our home to its full potential and get it to a place where I don't see 500 DIY's every time I walk into a room. AKA, 2020 is my year, and quite frankly, the year Casa Connelly is getting FINISHED. A bold statement, I know!
Last fall, I broke down each room on a spreadsheet and Adam and I have already begun to tackle a TON of small finishing touches in each room. It's been really helpful to break down big projects and our needs into smaller, bite-sized portions. We're finally ready to share some of the plans.
Are you ready?! We're finally going to be tackling our main stairway, bathrooms, closets, and ALL the upstairs floors. Plus, all the styling, new products, and decor. HOLY MOLY. We've been working on saving our pennies so we could do these projects all at once and have minimal life disturbances going on!
The best part? I'll be sharing all the how-to here on the blog. When I am researching a project I find home blogs and designers to be the BEST resource in how to tackle a project. I would love to think some of my own mistakes and research could help you guys plan your own home projects!
FIRST UP? I have been finishing off the living room. It is like 70% done and I just have a couple of upgrades and finishing touches I want to add.
The living room is our most lived-in space in the whole house. We tend to eat, hang out, and watch TV in this space so it is really important to me that we make some changes when it comes to comfort and hosting. I am also ready to swap out and upgrade some of our furniture. SO....TA-DA! Here are some of the upgrades I am thinking about making.
I wanted this space to stay bright and airy so I kept the like neutral tone and did a fresh re-paint of the room and all of the woodwork.
Adam and I also wanted to upgrade our rug. We had a low pile Ikea rug because of Miss Willow Pants but we wanted something a bit more shaggy, for comfort and hanging out. We also wanted a pattern that was a bit less intense and more boho. It contrasts our more traditional pink/oriental rug in our dining space and ties the room all together.
Next up, we are planning to update our console table, coffee table, and chairs. The tables are all Tesco pieces that have lots of scratches so I want to replace them with pieces I know we will love for years to come. I am OBSESSED with the rattan console table and it's the one piece I am going a little crazy modern/vintage with. I'm also updating the chairs in rattan to go in contrast with our white couch and add a little texture. We're getting something WAY more comfy than what is here because guests are legitimately terrified to sit down lol! No worries, I'm moving that piece upstairs where Adam and can use it.
Lastly, I'm planning to update the space by changing up some of our artwork. I find that if I change things out, it makes the whole space feel fresh and exciting. I've writtena blog about some of the new pieces we got for this space.
I've listed some of the new pieces and furniture we're planning on getting for this room! I also think a ton of these would make amazing Christmas gifts or pieces for your own home. I am so excited to see what you think! My biggest piece of advice so far is take your time to get the pieces you really love and want. It's been a couple years of me collecting pieces and making sure I love how they all look together. I am not a big fan of matching furniture sets so creating boards and taking my time has been so helpful in the process.
I also wanted to show you guys my Christmas kitchen today! Since this room is the only 100% DONE room in the house, I figured I could show you how I am styling and using some Fuzzy Bee awesomeness in my own home. What do you think!
