Fuzzy Bee Book Club: Our May Read

Recently I've been talking about how I am doing things for ME. I wanted to talk a little bit about that. I have a tendency to just put my head down and do my daily tasks for my business, chores, relationships. Usually, I poke my head out once every 2-3 months when I get in a funk and I go through a low period of feeling out of sorts. Does anyone else do this?!

When I was single, I only had me to think about and I was WAY better at taking care of ME. I exercised, focused on my mental health, met up with girlfriends, took time to be creative, and more. In April, I wrote a list of all of these things and I decided to conquer getting back to being myself and taking care of myself again. I find when I am good to my body, brain, and soul, that I am better to other people in my life.

One of the first items that popped up was my reading habits. I used to love to read. When I lived in Boston I had a 1-hour commute each way into the city and I would settle into a good kindle read on my to and from work. Once my commute vanished, so did my reading. I've talked a bit about this before on the blog and of course, I NEVER stuck to it. Yet I am feeling more mature and motivated this time around. I've been making some of these 'goals' actually stick. So, I'm picking up my Fuzzy Bee Book Club membership again!

The first book I picked is a brand new read called The Doll Factory by first-time author Elizabeth Macneal. The book is set in London during the Victorian period and immediately was gothic, dark, and bit broody.

The novel depicts a story of Iris, who despite her parent's disapproval, decides to follow her dream of becoming an artist. By chance, she meets Luis who is a painter from Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Luis wants to paint Iris and agrees to give her painting lessons in return. However, Luis is not the only one who has their eyes on Iris.

Silas and Iris are briefly introduced at The Great Exhibition. While Iris forgets Silas in an instant, Silas holds onto their meeting. Socially awkward Silas dreams about Iris day and night. Completely delusional about her feelings, he believes she feels the same. Don't worry, I am not going to spoil the ending!

I have a couple of chapters left of the book and I am loving it so far. I normally go for murder mysteries, so this was a wonderful historical novel mixed with darker, gothic elements I love in a book. I can feel it leading up to a crazy twist at the end which I cannot wait to read! Overall, this is a good page turner and wonderful first read. I'll be posting over on Instagram when I finally finish it but so far it's an 8/10.

I'm super excited that I've actually stuck to reading the book (face palm)! I'll be trying to chronicle some of the self-care things that have worked for me and any products I've loved along the way.

If you want to join the book club with me I would LOVE IT! Or just take my book recommendations. I'll be using #fuzzybeebookclub to track my reads! I'll be pairing cocktails and printables with the reading every month.

I can't wait to see if you guys like the book or the recipe this month! Comment below if you have any other books I should be reading. I love getting recommendations from you!
